When Ruth contacted me about her and Kevin’s engagement session and asked if I’d be open to doing part of their session visiting the murals in the “Love Letter” project… well, you can just imagine the fight I put up. Awesome people. Awesome murals. Awesome urban setting. Go ahead. Twist my arm harder. Needless to say, I was totally on board.
Philadelphia is known for its abundance of sweet murals, and I was super excited to get a chance to incorporate some into these two’s urban e-session! And, in case you hadn’t guessed it from the fact that they were the ones who brought the idea up… Ruth and Kevin are kind of amazing people. Smart, silly, creative, and so totally in love. (And they also brew beer. Bonus points.) One of the first things I found out about Kevin when I met these two, is that he has a fondness for calling any future children they may have “Gingians”. He also has a fondness for making his bride-to-be laugh, and she in return, makes his face light up when she smiles. It’s a good match. And, just in case you need further proof, Ruth’s foot pops pretty much every single time Kevin kisses her… and we all know the foot pop doesn’t lie. They also both remember what the other was wearing the night they met, and Ruth cites Kevin “busting into the center of a dance circle Numa Numa style” as one of the moments she knew he was the one for her. I’m telling ya, folks, these two are good together. So, stop listening to me ramble, and go look at how sweet they are and how happily they are in love.

“Love Letter” (sometimes called “A Love Letter for You”) is a mural project by artist Steve Powers, and features a series of 50 (!) rooftop murals along Market Street in West Philly. You can read more about the project here. While many of the murals are only visible when you’re riding the Market-Frankford train line, Ruth and Kevin did some digging and research of their own, and found a few they wanted to explore during their session. We also happened upon a few more as we were out and about. So. Much. Fun. I love a couple who have no problem traipsing through overgrown lots and climbing fences and walls… these two love an adventure, and it’s great to see how much effortless fun they have together!
After our mural exploration, we headed to one of the Philadelphia icons, to wander around Water Works, Boathouse Row, the Azalea Garden, and, of course, the art museum. We got there right at sunset, and boy, did the sun come out and say hello! Not only did we get some amazing sun time, but I’m totally digging the colors of the trees and gardens… thank you, early fall! And, Ruth and Kevin are pretty darn good-looking, too!
Also, I know Kevin already knows this well (and talks about it quite frequently, too), but seriously… isn’t Ruth just stunning?! She is such a beauty, inside and out. And, the love she has for Kevin is so evident. Love these two!
These two enjoy laughing together so much, and are totally a fun, goofy couple — my favorite kind! Perhaps that’s because I’m well-skilled in the goofy, silly, playful areas, too… It was great watching these two interact — it was sometimes quiet, sometimes loud, often sweetly snarky, and always, always filled with love.
Ruth and Kevin, thank you for inviting me to tag along as a witness to your love story. I had such a fantastic time, and seriously, when you have more ideas for exploring the city, just give me a call! It’s been great getting to know you two even more, and I love all the smiles and laughs you share. I am excited for all that the future has in store for you (and any potential “Gingians”), and hope you enjoy and treasure this final countdown to your wedding in May!
